Players take the role of Arthur Morgan, an outlaw in a gang in the late 1800s. Gameplay involves committing crimes and violence, shooting, hunting, and rescuing victims of kidnapping and lynchings. Narrative themes include sexual assault, anti-Black racism, anti-Native American sentiment and colonialism/colonization. Players must manage character weight through food consumption and weight management has an impact on gameplay. Players will witness implied sexual assault, KKK activity, pro-Confederacy dialogue, and the theft of Native land and murder of Native Americans.
